Joseph Powell is currently in charge of Science Content Design and Development in New York City, leading a team of curriculum developers to design, implement, and create science courses that facilitate inquiry-based learning, creating the conditions for scholars to pose and pursue rich questions, develop their own approaches to solve these problems, and constantly make sense of the ideas they are learning. Powell attended North Carolina State University and received his undergraduate degrees in Secondary Science Education and Biology, and later a Masters Degree in K-12 Administration and Supervision.
Powell has been involved in the Drum Corps, Marching Band, and Winter Guard activity for several years as a performer and teacher. He currently serves on the Texas Color Guard Circuit Board as the VP of Education.
