Michael Strange is a percussionist, educator, and arranger from Chesapeake, Virginia. Michael has an extensive background in the marching arts, serving on the percussion staff at both Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps and The Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps. He is an adjunct instructor for the world-renowned University of Alabama Million Dollar Band and regularly arranges for their fall productions. In addition to his drum corps and university work, Michael serves as a clinician for the Mililani Trojan Marching Band in Mililani, HI.
Michael earned his B.S. in Music from Radford University, where he studied with Dr. Robert Sanderl. During his time at Radford, Michael had the opportunity to perform alongside many notable percussionists such as Gordon Stout, Michael Burritt, Anders Astrand, Thomas Burritt, and Maraca 2. In 2016, Michael traveled to Ireland for a series of performances with the Radford University Wind Ensemble. He also had the honor of performing with the Radford University Percussion Ensemble at the Kennedy Center in 2015. In January of 2018, Michael traveled to Slovenia with the Radford University Percussion Ensemble to perform at Bumfest.
Michael has extensive experience in the marching arena with both DCI & WGI. Michael was a member of the 2013 Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps Front Ensemble and the Santa Clara Vanguard from 2014-2017. The Santa Clara Vanguard, under the direction of Paul and Sandi Rennick, received the Fred Sanford High percussion award in 2014, 2016 and 2017. In 2015, Michael performed with the Santa Clara Vanguard percussion section at PASIC.
In addition to his DCI experience Michael has taught with several marching band and percussion programs including Hickory High School, Bath County High School, Pulaski County High School, Radford High School, Westlake High School and James Bowie High School in Austin, Texas. During the 2018 WGI season, Michael served as a front ensemble instructor for Liberty University Indoor Drumline.
