Tyler Jacks is currently the Associate Director of Bands at James Bowie High School. He directs Bowie’s non-varsity concert ensemble and trombone choir, and assists with all other ensembles and marching band. Tyler spent the first years of his teaching career at Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas. While in Abilene, his duties included directing the marching band and non-varsity concert ensemble, and teaching beginning low brass classes. The ensembles under his direction have received consistent superior ratings at UIL Marching Band Contest and UIL Concert and Sight Reading, as well as an invitation for the Bowie Trombone Choir to perform at the 78th Midwest Clinic.
Tyler received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Studies with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin, studying trombone with Nathaniel Brickens. During his time at UT, he worked as a marching technician at Westwood and Leander High Schools. He completed his student teaching at Westlake High School and West Ridge Middle School.
As a performer, he marched baritone with Santa Clara Vanguard in 2017, and is incredibly excited about returning to the organization on the visual staff.
